The archive is pleased you have come to view our newly-created website. We hope you find it interesting and discover what you want. It's very much a work in progress at this time, however we have to start somewhere, and over the coming months we will be adding more photographs and content from the village past and present.

Welcome to Goostrey Parish Archive

Goostrey Parish Archive was founded in the 1960’s with its foundations in Goostrey History Society, formed with members and contributors including Jean and Colin Smallwood, Miss Mary Hooley, Mrs Margaret Kettle, Eileen Everett, Arthur Burgess, Mr Arthur Jarvis, Mr William (Bill) Lester, Mr Tom McCartney, Mr Frank Carter among others.

The original information and materials were gathered from personal recollections, donations and significant research (before the internet!) – mainly through trips to the archives at Chester Record Office; British Library London; Public Libraries in Chester, Manchester, Wilmslow and Northwich; The Congleton (Sandbach) Chronicle; Jodrell Bank as well as Past and present councillors of Goostrey.

The current Archive group (see ‘ABOUT US’) inherited this collection and have since added to it significantly with donations, research and input from the wider community and the internet.

Although we do our best to validate the facts, the information to be found on this website may occasionally contain small inaccuracies. If you become aware of any errors, please get in touch and leave your contact details. We will do our best to respond within a couple of weeks, as we are a small group of volunteers who meet once a week at Goostrey Village Hall.

Do you have any materials?

We are constantly looking for new materials including documents, photographs, your verbal memories, artefacts or anything else that may be of interest. You can loan or donate the items, or in most cases we can scan them and return immediately.

Current or recent photos and other material / artefacts are just as valuable as older contributions – we have lots of information from years gone by, but a limited amount of material from modern times.

Of particular interest are things like photos of property developments; current and recent clubs and societies’ information and photos …..
in fact anything that could be of interest to current and future generations.

WE NEED VOLUNTEERS!

To help us continue the work of Goostrey Parish Archive. Whatever your skills, knowledge or just enthusiasm, we are sure you will not only enjoy being a part of our friendly group, but also achieve a sense of fulfilment in helping to preserve the history of our wonderful village.

This website is in memory of Michael Burt, who was a very keen member of Goostrey Parish Archive and a generous benefactor to our organisation.
